Hello my dears, happy Thursday!
I've mentioned before that I very rarely write poetry, but last night I had these lines and phrases running through my head for hours, so I wrote them down and this morning I filled in the rest. :P I feel like the rhythm is a tad wonky still, but I did my best to straighten it out somewhat.
(A quick tip for reading poetry if you don't very often- only pause, whether you're reading out loud or in your head, when there's some type of punctuation and not just when a line breaks. For example: I see you stand in the corner, *pause* watching her every move, *pause*, etc. Just like reading prose. But anyway. :P)
Without further ado, here it is:
Leaves and Sprigs
~Alayna Stephens~
I see you
Stand in the corner, watching her every move,
Then you go home
And come back next week wearing those same shoes.
But I know that
You don’t wear them when you’re alone.
You’re different when you’re alone.
I see you
Weave leaves and sprigs into a crown
But you’re too scared
Of all the stares so you leave it on the ground.
But I know that
You’d wear it if you were alone.
You’re different when you’re alone.
I’ve been there too.
I find myself studying, copying, imitating
But it never feels right
Because I’m not like them, I can’t change myself.
I’ve wished I could
Just be like everyone else.
“God, why didn’t you make me like everyone else?”
But God sees us.
It makes Him smile when you wear that crown
And dance in the backyard when no one’s around.
And He made you
To love cowgirl boots and nerd T-shirts and
There’s no need to try and hide it because
He knows you.
He knows you better than anyone else,
He knows you better than you know yourself.
If they saw you
As you really are, were meant to be,
They’d probably stare
But who are they to decide what’s beautiful?
It’s not for them
But for God’s delight you’ve been created.
You can’t be someone else because He only makes one of each.
Nobody can be another you, He only makes one of each.
And live not to impress others with your originality
But glorify your Creator with your vivacity.
Guess what, life’s not about us but rather
About the One who’s now our adopted Father.
Just remember that you’re free now.
Free to be yourself now.
Let them see Him
By joyously pointing up to Heaven,
No need to see you
You’ve been found by the eyes that matter.
So dance for Him
Even when there are others watching.
Dance though the whole world may be watching.
Thanks for reading, my dears, my ramble-readers!
